Structure of concentrated nonionic surfactant microemulsions studied by small angle neutron scattering

چکیده
the structure of the microemulsion system consisting of 40% in volume of the nonionic susfactant pentaethyleneglycol-4-octylphenyl ether and equal volumes of decane and of the aqueous phase, has been studied by means of Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) and electrical conductivity experiments. The influence of several kinds of additives present in the aqueous phase (KC1, sodium dodecyl sulphate, and n-butanol) on the microstructure of the system at different temperatures has also been studied. SANS experiments revealed the existence of a water-in-oil structure with droplet sizes of the order of 2.6 nm and polydispersity around 20% in mostly all the cases. A slight increase in the distance between droplets with the addition of KC1 can be observed, while the addition of SDS or nbutanol results in smaller size and polydispersity. High electrical conductivity values have been obtained for the samples with salts, which can be due to interactions induced by the applied electiical field.

The Phase Behavior and Microstructure of EfficientCationic–Nonionic Microemulsions
A surfactant mixture of didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB) and n-alkyl polyglycol ethers (Ci E j ) can make efficient microemulsions of decane and water. Increases in surfactant efficiency by up to a factor of four are realized as 2% C8E3 is replaced with DDAB. As little as 6% of an appropriate surfactant mixture can microemulsify equal masses of oil and water. The increase in DDAB concen...

HYPOTHESIS The formation, stability and structural properties of normal liquid phase microemulsions, stabilized by hydrocarbon surfactants, comprising water and hydrocarbon oils can be interpreted in terms of the film bending rigidity (energy) model. Here, this model is tested for unusual water-in-CO2 (w/c) microemulsions, formed at high pressure with supercritical CO2 (sc-CO2) as a solvent and...

Surfactants with colloids: adsorption or absorption?
HYPOTHESIS The interaction of Aerosol OT (AOT) surfactant with systems of model colloids in nonaqueous solvents (water-in-oil microemulsions, surfactant-stabilized silica organosols, and sterically-stabilized PMMA latexes) is expected to be system specific. Two limiting cases are expected: adsorption, with surfactant located at the particle surfaces, or absorption, with surfactant incorporated ...

The impact of the nonionic surfactant, dodecyl triethyleneglycol ether (C(12)E(3)) on the solution microstructure of the dialkyl chain cationic surfactant, dihexadecyl dimethyl ammonium bromide, (DHDAB) has been investigated. The variation in solution microstructure has been studied using a combination of small angle neutron scattering, ultra small angle neutron scattering, optical texture and ...
